The breach incident occurred on the afternoon of July 5, when a piping hazard emerged in the dike along the Dongting Lake frontline in Tuanzhou Dyke, Hua Rong County. Following a failed emergency sealing attempt, the dike gave way. The sealing and consolidation work officially commenced in the afternoon of July 6 and has since made steady progress. As of 2 p.m. on July 7, the bidirectional sealing length had surpassed 80 meters, reaching 84 meters.

The Hunan Province Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters held a press conference in Hua Rong County to provide detailed updates on the rescue efforts and answer media questions. The success of the sealing operation not only reflects the hard work and professional expertise of the rescue personnel but also demonstrates the efficient organization and coordination in responding to sudden natural disasters.

Currently, the sealing work is still underway to ensure the safety of the dikes in the Dongting Lake area and to prevent further disasters. With the continuous increase in the sealed length, it is expected that the breach will be fully sealed in the coming days, effectively controlling the water level of Dongting Lake and ensuring the safety of the surrounding areas.
